April 19, 2006 GreenCine Daily has an interview today with Graham Leggat, new Executive Director of the San Francisco Film Society. all the talk of a new film center has me wriggling with excitement. Don't click if you don't want spoilers. (via I Watch Stuff!) Posted by bcm at 03:48 PM | Comments (0) March 06, 2006 somehow i missed the snakes on a plane meme, but now i'm caught up with a vengeance. i want to draw attention to one of the great quotes of entertainment history: At some point, the film's working title was altered to Pacific Air Flight 121, to the consternation of many. In August 2005, a perturbed Samuel L. Jackson told an interviewer, "We're totally changing that back. That's the only reason I took the job: I read the title." also i would like to highlight this wonderful poem from snakes on a blog: Roses are red Posted by bcm at 01:13 PM | Comments (0) February 17, 2006 Posted by bcm at 07:45 AM | Comments (0) February 16, 2006 The Top Ten Sci-Fi Films That Never Existed (thanks Sonia) Posted by bcm at 11:07 AM | Comments (0) February 02, 2006 reuters reports on the new harry potter and narnia movies. i hope prince caspian is better than the first narnia movie, which was a bit of a let down, i thought. i want gritty realism! Posted by bcm at 08:55 AM | Comments (0) January 30, 2006 I Watch Stuff! reports that Christopher Nolan is making a film version of The Prestige, an excellent novel about rival magicians in Victorian England, played in the film by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. hey, this time i actually read the book before they made the movie! Posted by bcm at 08:17 AM | Comments (0) January 27, 2006 apparently nick cave wrote a movie. how'd i miss that one and have to find out about it from reuters? if you read and the ass saw the angel then you're as excited as me for this flick. now taking bets on where it plays in SF. i say the lumiere, or the bridge if we're lucky. UPDATE: a buddy who works for Landmark says: Landmark has picked it up and we will be showing it in a few cities starting in May. We'll probably have a run here, most likely on the next Lumiere/Opera Plaza calendar. Posted by bcm at 12:00 PM | Comments (0) May 11, 2005 just found the first teaser for the lion, the witch and the wardrobe. yeah!! i love that i live in a time where the geeks of my generation have the money and the technology to make the books we grew up with into movies. i'm so fired up for this! Posted by bcm at 11:27 AM | Comments (0) April 10, 2005 the SF Int'l Film Festival kicks off in a couple weeks. i haven't been since (i think) 2002, so i'm very much looking forward to it, though i can still do without the big messy dump of a venue the Kabuki is. my schedule: 4/21 7pm The Ax update: turns out that a couple of those films weren't eligible for my CineVouchers. they happened to be the two that i was most excited about. ah well. SFIFF is always a hit-or-miss proposition. that's sort of its appeal. you have absolutely no idea which films are going to stick with you and those which will have you snoozing within 20 minutes.
