Comic Book Resources transcript of a chat with Alex Robinson, creator of Box Office Poison and Tricked

Not the most exciting read, being a chat transcript, but there are some gems buried within. Tricked has been sitting on my coffee table for months. This is motivating me to finally open it up.

NYC folks, there's a new comic shop in Cobble Hill.

Rocketship is Brooklyn's newest comic book and graphic novel store, opening in August at 208 Smith Street, with a wide selection of graphic novels, alternative comics, "DIY" mini-comics, and original comic art. To help celebrate the grand opening, Rocketship will host "Cartoon Brooklyn," a gallery show featuring work by some of Brooklyn's best local artists. Jessica Abel (Artbabe, La Perdida), Dean Haspiel (Opposable Thumbs, The Quitter), Matt Madden (A Fine Mess, Odds Off), and Josh Neufeld (A Few Perfect Hours, The Vagabonds) will all have work displayed in the store throughout August and September. An opening reception will be held on July 29th, from seven until ten in the evening, complete with an open bar that will be serving wine and beer in the store's garden. (Please contact Alex Cox at 718-797-1348 to be added to the guest list.)

pictures at the store's blog. apparently there's a garden. i wonder if they'll let you bring in beer and joints.

anyway, go check it out and let me know what you think.

books on the "to read" stack:

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke
A Gentleman's Game - Greg Rucka
The Dark Tower (The Dark Tower VII) - Stephen King
Lyra's Oxford - Philip Pullman
Mastering JavaServer Faces
Real World Web Services

comics on the to-read stack:

Gotham Central #27
The Ultimates 2 #2 (i don't think i ever got #1)
The Pulse #7
Ultimate X-Men #54
Strangers in Paradise #70
The Spectacular Spider-Man #23
Fables #33

every once in a while i think about going through my books and comics, making a list of the authors and series i really like, and then wishlisting all the stuff they've produced that i don't already have. but inevitably i have these thoughts while i'm driving to LA, or on a plane, or in the shower, and i forget about it 15 seconds later. i'd do it now but i'm a little sleepy and i need to get up early to finish up a project for a Saturday deadline.
