« February 2004 | Archives | April 2004 » March 31, 2004 a great variation on the usual signal that a mailing list thread has reached the end of its life Posted by bcm at 12:46 PM March 29, 2004 A few nights ago at the local bar, it came to my attention that my friend Johnny Maldoro has never heard of Summoner Geeks, or the Mario Twins, or any of the other classics. so, Johnny, here's a viewing list culled from suggestions made by friends who must have been super bored at work today: weeee Posted by bcm at 05:26 PM
Ain't It Cool News has a review of the upcoming film Havoc, which includes this nugget of gold: Allison and her friend Emily befriend the 16th Street Crew. And they want to 'join' the 16th Street Crew. Well, Hector sees his chance to get those Pearly Whites near Lil' Hector. He tells them that in order to join, they have to roll a 1d6 (yes he actually says this, he is a huge D&D fan) and whatever it comes up with is the number of guys they have to fuck to get into the crew. I can't believe I never thought of that. Posted by bcm at 09:26 AM March 28, 2004 my uncle George got married in the East Village yesterday. found myself reconnecting with family that i haven't seen in years - in a few cases, probably ten years or more. for the first time, i think, i enjoyed a family event without any feelings of cynicism, smugness or superiority. getting older, finally starting to enjoy the idea of family. Fun article over on Slate about the recent increase in zombie movement rates. We grew up expecting them to lurch, but now they've brought their game to a new level. Gotta be able to outrun the guns. Posted by bcm at 08:43 AM March 26, 2004 Fascinating Slate article discussing the science of memory and its depiction in films such as Memento and, more importantly, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Met this guy Kevin at the Great Lakes the other night, had an extremely drunken conversation about the differences in programming for Motorola and Intel chipsets, something I know absolutely nothing about. He sent a copy of his band's CD home with me. Check out the clips for some good six-shooter-and-a-shot-of-whiskey rock. Smokewagon. Nice Misfits and Cash covers. Just joined the netflix_operations_discuss Y! Group. Noticed that Netflix is hiring. If I hadn't just started a 12 week freelance project, I'd be tempted to move back back to the Bay Area to work there. Maybe somewhere on the peninsula, so the commute wouldn't be so hellish. I'm getting old and tired; the time for moving to the suburbs draws closer. AEG is putting out "The World's Largest Dungeon". Stats: 800 pages, 1500 encounters, 15 22x27 maps, every monster in the SRD (Source: Gaming Report). Sounds unbelievably ridiculous. None of the reports included a retail price. I'm sure I'll buy it, skim, and throw on a shelf ;) Posted by bcm at 11:40 AM
it's been a confusing week. i am reminded of the scene in Flash Gordon where Dr Zarkov's memories are being erased, a train of fragmented images whizzing by. my proudest achievement was remaining upright on a stool for five hours at the Great Lakes. where the hell did March go? Posted by bcm at 09:22 AM March 13, 2004 spam received this evening: Bcm, start smoking today! women met while smoking outside the great lakes bar tonight: emily, barbara, pam and here i am on the computer at 2.46 am... Posted by bcm at 02:47 AM March 01, 2004 after a year and a half with them, my company - Covalent Technologies - is "selling both lines of business and reducing the workforce". reducing to 0, that is. i'm out on the street again, so to speak, abruptly considering the question of what to do with myself. leaning towards trying to support myself as an independent software consultant until late autumn and then taking some time off to travel: Australia, NZ, maybe some Europe. seems almost like a gift in a way, if you don't think about the not earning wages part.
